This past week has been a cost budgetting lesson.

 

I got a new pair of flip flop sandals at Old Navy for 97 cents and wearing them everyday. Yesterday, I got a nice camoflage mesh hat at Dollarama for well a dollar. 

 

Then I tried to save some cash .... a couple of times at Costco getting contact lenses ... a frustation experience as the "optician" refuses to give me contacts without a newer prescription b/c of a small scar in my left eye. So I get one from the "optometrist" which cost me $100 and then Costco still refuses to validate the prescription even though the note says contact lense on it. I never blew it. Anyways, looks like I tried to save $150 and now I'm out $150 plus the doctor's visit. (but did I tell u I got my sandals for 97 cents? )

 

Weak movie ... the ads look funny but this is one very mediocre movie.  Plot is Adam Sandler and the fat guy from Hitched fake a gay marriage... Sounds funny but it isn't. I was quite quite excited to see this but sadly it was just one bad joke after another...

 

Save yourself and go check out something else.

 

Lesson of the day: Comedians have a finite life, there are only funny for so many years and then they become not funny anymore..

So I think I might have a new favorite steak, I know, have I gone insane? Your New York striploin is not longer your favorite !

 

I had a great T-bone in Calgary but then again, I grew up on T-bones and is not about to top the striploin. Then again, half of a t-bone is actually a strip loin. (the other half is a filet mignon)

 

But I might have to change my new favorite steak to the Rib Eye. I eat alot of ribe eyes but recently realized it might be my favorite new steak. WHY? Does this make sense ..... you eat alot of rib eyes but finally realized it might be your favorite ! Well, I eat alot of rib eyes but in the form of prime rib ! Rib eye is the same as prime rib but prime rib is roasted then cut. Rib eye steaks are a steak that is grilled on the BBQ.

 

Rememeber to try rib eye steaks in both rib eye with the bone and without. Grilling a ribeye with a bone sometimes folds up because the rib eye is more of two different textures of meat - the eye part and the steak part. But buy a rib eye at Costco (they sell them without bones) and you might have the best steak you ever had. Disclaimer - make sure to cut some fat off b/c rib eyes are fatties but hotties.

 

Question of the day, why is the NFL quarterback Micheal Vick not allowed to play football when he is charged with dog fighting but Kobe Bryant is allowed to play basketball when he is charged with rape.

 

I went to a wine tasting over the weekend. Sounds very fancy and sophisticated ... the premise is that everyone brings one bottle of wine and then everyone tries them and then remembers the names of the ones they liked so they can buy them for future consumption. I forgot which were the names of the ones I liked unfortunately... I recall, third from the left one was a very good wine. Oh well. This Spanish bottle I brought was pretty good but it was pretty pricey for my tastes ($18.95).

 

For my tastes, I like the $13 Australian Shiraz "Rosemount Estates" ... Australian red wines are tasty and have excellent price points. I'm no wine consonniseur but Australian wines are emerging more in the marketplace as the country of choice for good value and good taste. The Rosemount wasn't at the party or else I just would of drank this all nite.

 

I had this awful awful sour white wine that was really really bad ... I also forgot the name of the this.  I guess I didn't really fully utilize the wine tasting to find a wine I like amidst all the wines and then buy it in the store in the future.

 

We need to have a champagne tasting party next time... as with champagnes, more or more people haven't tasted many and a tasting of a selection of these would make buying the perfect champagne for those special romantic occasions more perfect.

 

Wow, that was a movie ! If you see one movie in the theatres, its Transformers. It was pretty awesome.  That's how to make a classic 1980's tv cartoon or tv show. Forget the forgettable tv turned movies like Miami Vice, Dukes of Hazzard, Flintstones, Inspector Gadget, Scooby Dooby Doo ... great tv shows that ruined their shows by turning into awful awful movies.

 

Transformers beats than awful trend and actually as good or better than the tv show. Kudos. Two Blogs up. 

 

 

As one gets older and in his or her "thirtysomethings", you seem to forget music . Its nature. You listen to the "oldies"  or classics... and then try to be hip and listen to the new stuff but just the top 40 generic  50 cent, Kanye West, Blacked Eyed Peas, Gwen Stefani, J Lo etc....

 

Music is in decline ... sure Ipods are hip but music as a genre is being dominated by Ikea shopping, Home Depot visits, Starbucks, etc.

 

The last CDs I got were 50 cent, Kanye West and Hillary Duff.. Those are the only CDs I have purchased in the last 5 years. No one cares anymore about music.

 

Is it b/c music is too bubble gum pop and that's why its not as popular? Hell no, its the age of your peer group. Rather than asking about the new Dave Mathews Band CD or Pearl Jam release, people ask about what type of hangers they have at Home Depot or how much cubic feet is in a minivan.

 

I testdrove a hybrid car today - the Toyota Camry Hybrid ... Toyota is the leader in hybrid electric cars. These cars are quiet. You can't tell its even on. Its pretty amazing technology.

 

So my mom calls and tells me that she just testdrove the hybrid and it "didn't have enough power" .. "I tried to accelerate on Deerfoot Trail (highway) but the car didn't move"

 

My mom is so accustomed to 5000 horsepower cars with German 5.5 L V8s that she has lost touch with reality. The new Camry hybrid has good performance, style and blog friendly. Two blogs up.

 

 

My Blog is back from the Calgary Stampede. Yahooo. The next day after I get back, I'm off to a wedding in Windsor.... and no, the justice of peace didn't threat to not marry this couple like the last wedding I went to.

Why is your blog titled My blog had crabs? See last blog. Thats what it should of been called.

 

Whats this summer's fashion item? The "tank-kini". Its something in between a bikini and swimsuit.

 

I ate alot of crab this weekend ... I like crab alot. Its like the chicken wing of seafood. Its mighty delicious.

 

There are two main crabs - the BC crab and the Alaskan snowcrab. Most chinese places serve BC crab since its fresh and alive and most Western restaurants serve alaskan crab. 

 

Both are great ... I cooked a couple of BC livecrabs on the weekend and then had some all you can eat Alaskan crab legs on Canada Day. Nothing says Canada Day then all you can eat crab legs. I like my crab cold and chilled on ice with lemon wedges and cocktail sauce. This is how to eat Alaskan crab.

 

Alaskan crab have much longer legs and are more spider looking than BC crabs. BC crabs look less crab like if that makes anysense.

 

The nice thing about Alaskan crab legs is they are easier to break and then eat than BC crabs ...

 

I used to be more of a lobster boy but with age, I'm slowly comin more of a crab boy. Maybe I ate too much lobster as a child. Lobster can be grilled so its alittle more diverse than crab as crab needs to be steamed.  You can't BBQ a crab.

 

 

 

If you get a Ferrari, you must get red. Not blue, not grey, not yellow. Red - Ferrari red.

 

The problem with Ferrari is "the waiting list" ... everyone gets a base 430 to show off.. and if you don't anticipate your purchase at least 2-2.5 years in advance, your going to get a stale dated 430 (or 360) and don't want to look like a loser to real car afionandos. Its like buying a pair UGG boots in 2007. Its sort of cool but are you kidding yourself.

 

The choice Ferrari is the 599, the V12. If you are buyng a car, get a V12, V8s are a dime a dozen.

 

Due to waiting lists, a Lamborginhi now is a viable option if you didn't plan ahead... but getting one, its more about trendy now. A Lamboringni in 10 years looks like crap so think about this.

 

and the trend towards fake manual cars in sports car is drviing me crazy - putting an automatic with "Formula One paddles" is just an automatic and clutchless. To me, these clutchless automatic sportcars are like fake boobies, this trend must stop.

 

The only thing u should get automatic is watches...
