1月30日 Valentines adviceWhat do you do on Valentines?
It depends
- are you
a) just starting a new relationship
b) single
c) married or equivalent
Depending on a,b or c - this will affect what you should do on Valentines Day
I have also enclosed a love letter just in case you forget to do anything and you can just copy and paste it and sent it to your loved one. Just hope she doesn't write this blog.
If you read other websites, they will suggest you waste money on flowers, expensive dinners, swiss chocolate and spa getaways.
Don't do that, that's like shopping at the Gap, its very generic and really does it make you stand out?
First of all, send her a song to her i-pod in the morning. You need to set the mood so choose an appropriate song.
Then if you forgot to get anything the day of and you are stuck at home, scribble on a piece of paper. "Gift certificate for one free massage and sign her name on it"
Where do you eat on Valentines Day - take her someone unexpected and something that smells good. Take her to a local KFC and order a family bucket. This way you have a variety of appetizers, food and McCain fudge cake. There is nothing more romantic that McCain frozen chocolate cake.
Shanghai SurpriseI might be off to Shanghai soon ...
This morning I woke up to a Leaf's Insider email ! I was so pissed off, I suscribe to Raptor's insider to get updates on games and news but I got this Leaf's thing and was like they have the audacity to send me this Leafs crap. I never asked for Leafs just b/c they are owned by the same company does not have the right for them to send them propanganda. Anyways, I was thinkin how pathetic the Lefas have gotten, they had to send mass emails telling Raptors fans how good they are going to be...
Anyways, I got an apology email later on saying it was a technology mishap but I doubt it.
The Leafs and their fans are like a really fat girl who think she is a supermodel and has a supermodel ego... they are kinda like the Star Jones of sport teams if that makes any sense. 1月29日 Product endorsements .....So apparently some blog writers get money for product advertisements ... My blog despite its popularity in mainland China, is unbiased in all its recommendations..
What my blog would recommend :
Shoes
Cole Haan loafers - they are too expensive for my blog but if you have $200 to spend, go fetch these shoes and girls will go ga-ga over you.
Vans - I really like the slipons
Hush Puppies - this is what my blog wears
Drinks -
Vitamin water
Coconut iceslush at the Freshly Squeezed outlets in the malls
Any original flavoured Orange Julius (Strawberry Banana)
Tv shows -
start watchin Lost to get Lost and frustated but intrigued at the sametime
24
The Office
I don't get it but why are all the best shows are lumped into Thursday nites (Lost is now, CSI, the Office, CSI, Grey's Anatomy, My Name is Earl, Smallville, Laguna Beach) This is blatant social injustice as not everyone can afford a PVR. Especially since cable is not included in condo fees anymore.
TV shows to get on dvd:
The British version of the Office
Shirts
Dress shirts with an extra sleeve on the shoulder
Dress shirts with cufflinks
Wrestling trend
Professional Wrestlers try to fight in the UFC - very excited to see how Brock Lesnar does ... is this the gayest thing I ever said? Let me get back to you.
TV shows I have been watching lately b/c nothing is on
Scott Baio is 45 and single
Its much better than the Corey Haim and Feldman show ... and that short dude from Wonder Years (Kevin Arnold brother is best friends with Scott)
Facebook -
I thought it was the lamest thing when I heard about it . Just thought it was the Friendster or My Space but it has been fun to touch base with friends from the past. I love editing my profile and sending ridiculous messages to people. Only a couple of years ago, Friendster was worth "billions"b/c of its user lists but now its worth ZERO b/c Facebook has taken over. What's funny, is the number of your friends list is inversely proportional to how really popular you are in the real world.
Aaron Karo - read him - hilarious
Movies that contain Jason Bateman - you would of thought my blog was on crack if I said that a few years back... then again, Hogan's family was not that bad and Justine Bateman was arguably the Lizzie McQuire of her generation along with Alyssa Milano.
Did you know .....
everytime I do stuff nowadays, I think I'm Troy Jackson ... my friend Troy lives in the real suburbs of Milton, a mass produced subdivision that is about 20 hours away from Toronto where people visit Home Depots for vacation, commute via Go train and think Toronto is only 10 minutes away.
Well everytime I do things in the house, I really think "I am Troy Jackson"
- washing dishes, taking garbage out, shovelling snow, buying furniture, looking for tiles, putting in sliding doors on weekends, askin his wife if he can eat icecream
I just saw an ad for Knight Rider - its back on TV ! and they are using a Mustang ! What the uk ! That's like using giving chicken wings to a vegan. Show will be on the ridiculous lameside so I will make sure to give you a full review when it comes out.
![]() 1月27日 Clubs and PubsSo I went out for a few bday celebrations this weekend all on the same day .
First of all due to the bday locales being held in 3 different locations, it was going to be a tricky logistical endeavour.
After dinner, we went to this new Irish pub, I never heard of Grace O Mailley's in the heart of the entertainment district. Thats what this area needed - a good old fashioned pub. The entertainment district has lost all its star power as everything and everything is on King West and lounges west off Spadina. But this was an Irish pub with a twist - a freakin $13 cover ! uck me, I wasn't drinkin b/c we drove ... (in part b/c of the 3 different locations and the 15 minute walk to the subway in snow)
$13 cover per person for a pub ... oh times have changed and the place was packed about 25% more than your typical Irish pub with an one hour line-up (when we left) .. I wasn't so upset at the cover but was just thinking again as the next bday stop was a trendy King West lounge that could possibly have a $20 cover (times 2 people). I could be paying $64 in cover charges for one nite. It also didn't help matters, I was low on money after dinner and the entertainment district is low on ATMs (unless they are the private ripper ones) Never use a ripper ATM as it rips you off.
The pub was packed with a collection ranges from teenagers to old grubby men ... (its an Irish Pub) .. The band was pretty good even playing a Micheal Jackson song in between you standard songs.
We left for the King West bar - Marben - one block south off the real King West strip but nextdoor to the famous C lounge. I was afraid of the "cover" and the lineup on the walk. (plus I didn't have enough money). Thank goodness, due to the condonization of the entertainment district, we passed by my bank so I saved being ripped off from the ripper ATMs.
Get to Marben and its a complete ripoff of Lobby Lounge ... exact same bar set-up and decor. All these lounges are super dark, rectangular shaped and have bars/tables with fake marble glass tables that illuminate. Unfortunately the bday girl wasn't there. We looked and looked and we about to leave then these two guys came over and asked if we were with Jen's bday party. They had been there for hours waiting. They looked like an adult version of the SuperBad team waiting for Jen's facebook bday party extravangza. They thought they were duped into a fake party until they saw us. I was beginning to have doubts after talkin to them and it was close to midnite. Two dudes waiting for a girl. They even said they had trouble getting into the place as the bouncer said the place was already at capacity to them. We just walked in and saw no bouncer.
I got a virgin diet coke and it came in a freakin mixed drink glass with ice. That's like 1/3 of a can of diet coke !
So after one hour chatting with the SuperBad look alike team, Jen's bday party group arrived. Hip Hip hurrah ...
Eva was enamoured with the dichotomy of the two bars - one pub with a $13 cover and one lounge that had zero cover. She was confused. The $13 pub was decored poorly, had uglier people/girls in it and was lined up. The lounge was free and nicely decored and people were dressed up and the girls were prettier. Both bars were packed.
Advertisment - Gracy O'Malley's has One Cent wing nights on Monday but can only buy 10 with a drink purchase. I rather have unlimited 25 cents wings with one drink purchase. 1月24日 Do you pay on DatesMy blog friend asked me to blog whether it was appropriate to spend $200 on a dinner date with a girl and then ask her to pay for the tip.
Answer - No, it is never appropriate to spend $200 on dinner on a date with a girl. Ever .. if you ever spend $200 on dinner with a girl, it screams that you are desparate and not down to earth. Asking a girl to pay for the tip is never advisable as it should be the other way around, she pays dinner and you offer to pay a small gratuity tip.
Other ideas to spend $200:
Buy a domestic car
Take the girl to to all you can eat ribs
Spend it on $20 on brunch and the rest on roulette
Take her to a live professional wrestling event like Wrestlemania
Email Dr. Phil $200 and tell him you are a lame ass
1月23日 Hockey is the New National EnquirerMy blog and I watch alot of hockey .. Lately, hockey shows are focused like its a soap opera on Melrose Place or something ...
I heard Cliff Fletcher is going to the Mayan Rivera ... anyways, the thing I hate most about Toronto, its the Leafs coverage ...
Will the Leafs trade Matt Sundin? Will the Leafs trade Bryan McCabe? Will the Leafs do X, Y and Z....
After the Leafs GM got fired, the media were all over how "stand-up" a guy he was ... after bashing him for years. Did they mention how crappy a job he did?
Hiring of the former Leafs GM a few years back is remiscent of the Flames hiring Craig Button who killed the flames for years with his incompetency as GM. A good scout but bad GM phenomenon.
He's got a team of untradeables : Jason Blake is 34 years old and is turning 35 this fall. He will be 39 and making $4 million dollars. He is known for his speed but I suspect when he is 39 his speed might go ... hell I might even be faster than he is when he is 39. Okay, thats pushing it but my blog will be faster than he is.
Toronto fans think that they will get the moon and some cake too for Mats Sundin .. sure, it might take only one team to bite but come on.
Hockey always uses comparables : for salaries, abritration, negotiation. Hockey fans use it for trade values.
Keith Tzachunk was about to fetch 3 high draft picks last year and Matts Sundin is better than Keith Tzachunk.
Joe Thornton who was young MVP and under cheap contract was only about to fetch a 25 goal scorer, a up and coming D man and Wayne freakin Primeau.
I have to admit, the "new NHL" is more exciting and a better overall product than the old NHL ... its really focus on the now and the future .. hence players earning more not for past accomplishments but future ones.
I've been on the bandwagon to trade Alex Tanguay rummours for the past 3-4 months but since all the hoopla surrounding it recently, I am against it. Is it because I think I play like Alex Tanguay? maybe*
This lies in the simple fact of looking into the future. Sure everyone analyzes, well, you can't afford Langkow, Hulesius and Phaneuf with a salary cap so Tanguay is overpaid and must go. Well, Langkow and Hulesius are free agents and Tanguay is under contract. Why trade Tanguay and then if you can't sign Langkow and Hulesius, you lose 3 of your top 4 forwards next season. Unfortunately for $5m in unrestricted free agency doesn't get you a worldclass player anymore which is about what Tanguay makes. Sure Langkow and Hulesius are playing better right now and are much better financial bargains than Tanguay but at the end why risk trading Tanguay. 1月22日 GPS review - Garmin NuviGarmin are the Cadillacs of GPSs for cars :
I got a handy base unit from Best Buy during the holidays. $189 bucks - full colour touch screen with preloaded maps. Note - you're probably wondering are their suscription fees?
NO!
The satellites are free .. the unit is portable too and it includes a handy car mount. And it had voice guided directions !
It works pretty awesome and knows the roads very well and has insight into the intersections , what side of the ramp you need to get into, etc. Very handy at times.
It also comes preloaded with stores, restaurants and malls in your area so you just type and it is like a google search. The search is fast ... just be careful b/c sometimes the unit can't pick up the satellites fast enough.
![]() PS. Email me if you want a facebook note that went unpublished.
and no I don't know whats up with the different font.
Question of the day - do they allow GPS on Amazing Race b/c that would be funny - "GPS - turn right in 200 meters , etc" 1月20日 Where to Eat Brunch in Markham ....you probably wondered all your adult life, what if I was in Markham, Ontario, where would you go for brunch, well today, I can tell you where.
Frankie Tomatoes at the corner of Steeles- Woodbine (404 interchange) is the best Sunday brunch in the GTA.
How do you define Brunch . I define it as buffet when I wake up on a Sunday ...
Frankie Tomatoes is like one of those Vegas style themed buffets found only in the suburbs .. its Italian for Mandarin ..
My blog typically doesn't like Italian food so recommending this place is quite the achievement.
They had everything for brunch (excepts Omelettes but I had enough omlettes in Cancun to last me a lifetime)
- Awesome hashbrowns, calamari with a good pepper dipping sauce, beef ribs, lasagna, eggs benedict ... For some reason, beef ribs is some sort of staple for a brunch nowadays for me.
it was more dinner-lunch than a brunch which makes it even better.
The place was packed like a casino buffett with hundreds of people ... of which it seemed everyother table was celebrating their birthday.. not just kid bdays but lots of seniors ... it felt like an Italian Chucky Cheese with good food, no video games and people of all ages.
Did you know, its not my blog that not only finds and suggests these places but blog's girlfriend? 1月16日 Jacuzzi stressso its mid January and my Jacuzzi needs to be done by the end of the month (b/c my electrician is going to Jamaica for months) and its lookin bad. I really am not sure if it can be done.
The panel still needs to be done, new floor and walls, jacuzzi delivery, inspector approval ... its going to be one of these Trading Spaces last minute things ... I hope I have the tv ending but I am not so sure.
I watched alot of movies this past week so here are some quick bloggies.
Invasion with Nicole Kidman and Daniel "007" Craig ... remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers - Good rental movie thats a good remake (althought I haven't seen the original). Not a traditional lame science fiction movie.
Did you know Nicole Kidman best movie was not Dead Calm but Birthday Girl - a cool movie about Russian Mail order brides.. then again, what movie can't be good with russian mail order brides.
I am Legend - Will Smith - pretty solid movie and another science fiction zombie movie but with more depth ... ending was lame . Its like that Tom Hanks movie where he is stranded on a deserted island ..
King of California with Micheal Douglas - comedy - I'm sure you never heard of it, me neither but it came out last year and its surprisely entertaining. Douglas is a crazy mental patient who thinks there is a buried treasure underneath a Costco and forces his daughter to get a job there so he can find it. Any movie that has a Costco is good so long as Jessica Simpson is not in it.
1月14日 How do you spell Stag ...its 2008 and the most anticipated event of 2008 is coming soon. Stay tuned to my blog for the latest updates and developments. Clear your schedule. You will have the opportunity to attend this once in a lifetime moment. Book your reservations immediately. Its the event you dreamed of as a little boy.
Got any good ideas? Blog me. Txt me. Yell them to me.
![]() Yes, I loved TJ Hooker. Heather Locklear throwing his billie club at some criminals feet and tripping him was one of the best action sequences in the history of television. 1月12日 Blog in Real LifeSo you know what doesn't get taken into fashion much ....
........
everyone says shoes are what makes an outfit... but I just realized today that a good kicka$$ pair of socks are crucial. Good socks make your feet feel soft and comfortable. Advice of the day - don't go cheap on socks ...
Blog Movie Review - Dan in Real Life - a family comedy with the guy from the Office, Steve Carrell. Solid and underrated movie - date movie watchable. This is not Evan Almighty. Its like one of those comedies that a 30 sec movie ad catch capture the movie's humour ... ex. just like Little Miss Sunshine.
1月11日 the Philly Cheesesteak revisited ....Once upon a time, i wrote about the Philly Cheesesteak and what makes it great - is it the bread, beef, cheese, toppings, etc....
anyways, after my hockey game last nite, I ordered a Philly Cheese Steak (which York University Ice Gardens does a decent one) and they brought it in a freakin wrap by accident .. of course, I didn't ask them to send it back (never ask to send back food unless its rare - even if it is rare, i still think about it twice)
A philly cheese steak should not be put in a freakin Wrap - do I look like a waif thin model? I wanted it on garlic bread or some nice hoagie. Disappointing ... just the word wrap makes it unappetizing ... Wraps are only good if they are ethnic - see taco, souvlaki, sharwma.
Weird things I read recently -
Book revenues were much higher than movie revenues in the US. What the uck ! I know lots of people who see movies, but books ! * something like 30% higher
I just finished a 550 page autobiography on Bret the Hitman Hart, former professional wrestler .. I don't know why but I love reading these books ... although I stopped watching wrestling about 2 years ago. If I were to take an IQ test, my wrestling knowledge would sadly be very very high.
Whats even sadder is I was soo exicitng like a giddy school girl when I saw costco had the hardcover book for 50% off retail..
![]() 1月9日 How much do $1200 in loonies weighs ...So I went to deposit some laundry coins and the car kept beeping .... the coins weighed so much that the car thought there was a person in the passenger seat and that they weren't wearing a seatbelt. I left the coins on the passenger side seat and during the entire carride to the bank, it was beeping like crazy.
I'm sure most people hadn't seen one of these Excellence awards - FYI - it is above gold and its the red and gold badge . The only one that comes with its own plaque.
I wonder how my blog or myself would do if we revisited this Canadian Fitness Awards in today's time. Of course, I would have the most trouble with the flex arm hang but that event was eliminated in grade 2-3 anyways.
Events -
Shuttle run - run back and forth from bean bags - short sprint moving back and forth
50 yard dash
"Endurance" run
Standing long jump
Push ups
Sit ups 1月6日 A Guide to Where to Eat Chicken Wings in TorontoChicken wings .... there dam good and a staple of any healthy diet ..
I've eaten alot of wings and the days of 10 cents wings are gone just like 25 cent slurpees at 7-11.... ironically one of the best places for wings was the Rideout, this rundown bar slash nightclub in London, Ontario.
Now where to EAT wings in Toronto.
How do you judge wings?
SIZE - nobody likes Kelsey babysized ones, I like my wings steroid size
PRICE
QUANTITY
Taste
Crispy level
Salt and Pepper
Sauce
Hotness
The worst thing about wings is when they are miniature. Most chain restaurants - your Boston Pizza's, kelseys of the world have wings so small, I'm not so sure they can be legimately be called wings... I like chicken wings extra large..
Personally, I like my wings dry ... just like with all my meats - no sauce .. a true carnivore..
Toronto despite its enormous population, is just not a wing place ..
There are very few places to get good wings, which is so weird b/c its the wing is soooo difficult to mess up ...
Wing review -
St Louis Chicken Wings - the largest chain of wings and always packed for some reason - I have no idea why ... their wings are horrible and even I as a devoted wing eater doesn't like eating here .... they put their wings on platters - small portions of a few wings and tons of fries and veggie sticks to fill up the plate. I came for wings, not fries. The wings are soiled in grease and bad taste ... the fact that St Louis is the top spot for wings in the city represents how backward as a chicken wing establishment we have in Toronto.
Duff's wings - the orginal Buffalo wing place has two locations in Toronto, is famous for their hot wings ... They have tons of flavours, good sized wings but they are on the pricier side. If you are loaded, this is a solid solid wing place. Your standard solid wing - a great place if you like your wings hot.
Rose and Crown - huge wings, great taste, good value ... blog recommended
Hemingways - huge wings, great taste, good value ... blog recommended ... the wings here are alittle different without the traditional breading but quite good.
![]() 1月4日 How my blog spent New Years day...Sounds like a U2 song and you are probably itching to know what I did on New Years day, well here goes ... I flew back to Toronto and would advise people NOT to fly on New Years. Why because its freaking New Years day. The flight was delayed surprise surprise due to Toronto weather .. I watched the last quarter of the Simpsons movie on on demand Air Canada tv. I watched 3/4 quarters of the movie during the fligh to Calgary but we landed earlier and I missed the last 30 minutes. I recommend watching the Simpsons movie. Its quite romantic. I then watched the Bourner Identity. Awesome movie. Best of the trio too, unfortunately, I missed the last 15-20 minutes because the flight arrived early. uck me! I will either have to fly back to Calgary or rent it at Blockbuster to see the end of the movie. When I arrive to Terminal One which is the greatest ergonomic masterpiece, there are literally one thousand people waiting for their luggage at baggage claim. I guess they don't have people to work on New Years. I waited alittle of two hours and get home to a mountain of snow covering my driveway. I guess that's what happens when you spend the holidays in Mexico. 1月1日 New Year's Resolutions ..What's the best one to achieve your New Year's Resolutions, post a note on Facebook. My first priority in the New Year will maintain my blog with much more regularity. (http://ernestchu.spaces.live.com) I should also commit to reading my blog writings less than 10 times a day since its alittle ostentatious.
My 2008 New Year's Resolutions: - Wear tighter shirts on a more regular basis - Better spelling on my blog - Post better Facebook status updates - Log into my fantasy hockey draft more - Send poems to long lost friends saying how much I miss them once a month - Don't go to Home Depot every weekend - Always wear green when driving the Hybrid car to show your eco-friendliness - Stop making out with supermodels - Buy less seaweed shirts - Stop flying economy - Don't watch another episode of ABC's Carpoolers ever - Never miss 24 ever - Quit writing criticizing wall posts - Change your profession on your FB profile once a week - Limit fried chicken intake |
